Significance of Sheetla Ashtami
According to the Skanda Puranas, Mata Sheetla rides a donkey, holds an urn, broom, soup (supda) in her hands and wears a garland of neem leaves. Worshiping Goddess Sheetla destroys problems like fever, measles, smallpox, eye diseases, etc. On the day of Sheetla Ashtami, people are given a message by offering Matarani the stale food made on Saptami that from today onwards, only fresh food is to be taken in the entire summer season.
