Mahashivratri 2023, World Largest Natural Shivling: On Mahashivratri, the holy festival of Lord Shiva, there is an influx of devotees in the pagodas. On Saturday, February 18, 2023, even on the day of Mahashivratri, devotees will reach Shiva temples and pagodas for darshan and worship of Bholenath. There are many such famous temples of Shivji where devotees reach not only on Mahashivaratri but everyday for darshan. Along with this, Shivling has been constructed and established at different places around the world, which have their own importance and characteristics.
But amidst the dense forests of Madaura village in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh, there is a huge Shivling which is a natural Shivling. It is also known as Bhuteshwar Nath. This is not only India but such a Shivling of the world which is huge and natural.
Size of Bhuteshwar Nath Shivling
This Shivling is about 18 feet high and 20 feet circular from the ground. It is said that this Shivling is growing by itself 6-8 inches every year. The height of Shivling is measured every year by the Revenue Department.
History related to Bhuteshwar Nath Shivling
It is believed that hundreds of years ago Shobha Singh Zamindar’s farm was at this place. When Shobha Singh used to go to do farming, he used to see a shape like a mound near the field and also used to hear the sounds of bull’s roaring and lion’s roar. Shobha Singh heard these voices many times and finally she told this to the villagers. After this the villagers started searching for the wild animal. When no animal was found far and wide, the reverence of the villagers got attached to this place. People started worshiping the mound that came out of the ground as the form of Shivling. According to the villagers, in the beginning this mound was very small and its height and roundness was also less, which gradually started growing and is still growing today.
Mythological belief related to Bhuteshwar Nath Shivling
It is said that the ancestors of Chura Naresh Bindranwagarh used to worship here. There is a slight crack on the Shivling, due to which it is also considered as the form of Ardhanarishwar. A fair is also held at Bhuteshwar Mahadev in Gariaband district on Mahashivaratri, Sawan and on special occasions and a huge crowd of devotees gather.
